Swedish Cancer Institute’s Annual Oncology Symposium: Oncology Care in the Aging Population

Friday, May 11, 2018

Bell Harbor International Conference Center

Seattle, Washington

While cancer knows no age, it is much more common in the older adult population. Currently, eight-seven percent of all cancers in the United States are diagnosed in people 50 years of age and older.  As the aging population grows, oncologists are increasingly challenged with incorporating specific geriatric assessment recommendations into their practice. At the same time, family medicine physicians and gerontologists have to stay updated on common cancers in this patient population and changing cancer screening guidelines. To provide older adults with consistent cancer care and prevention, all providers involved in the care of older adults with cancer, or at-risk for cancer, need to be updated with the latest recommendations and guidelines.

This symposium is designed to provide attendees with the most up-to-date information on the assessment, diagnosis, and surgical, radiation and general treatment of older adults who have or are at-risk for cancer.  Expert, national speakers will provide participants with the tools to enhance their skills in selecting the most appropriate tests, novel treatment options, preventative measures, and supportive care services for older adult patients with cancer and address special concerns for this patient population in order to provide the best possible care and outcomes.

Intended Audience: This conference is intended for all health care professionals involved in the care of older adult patients with or at-risk for cancer. It is especially relevant for the following specialties: medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, geriatrics, primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, research, genetic counseling, palliative care, social work and naturopathy.
