PSONS Elections are now open!
Candidate Bios:
President Elect
My name is Mitra Freer, and I am an oncology nurse with more than 20 years of experience across inpatient and outpatient settings. For the past six years, I have served as an Oncology Nurse Educator for the NCI Cancer Information Service at Fred Hutch, while continuing to practice as a per diem oncology clinical nurse at the Swedish Cancer Institute. Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to supporting our cancer community, advancing cancer prevention, and strengthening the role of oncology nurses in advocacy, education, and patient-centered care.
I have been actively involved in the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society (PSONS) for several years. I served as Co‑Chair of the Education Committee from 2020 to 2022 and currently serve as a Board Member at Large, working closely with our health advocacy team. My volunteer work includes speaking to high school students about cancer prevention, presenting for community-based survivorship programs, supporting Obliteride fundraising at Fred Hutch, and served as a guest speaker for nursing students at Seattle University on cancer screening and prevention.I was one of the speakers in the recent PSONS symposium. My presentation was titled “Cancer Prevention and Health Advocacy” and also presented a poster at ONS Congress in 2025 about the oncology nurses’ role in cancer prevention.
Advocacy has become a central part of my professional mission. In collaboration with our health advocacy team, I have participated in ACS/CAN Cancer Action Day in Olympia, meeting with legislators to champion policies that benefit our cancer community in the past three years. Most recently, I attended ONS Capitol Hill Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C., where I met with policymakers to discuss critical legislation, including patient access to cancer screening, the Nursing Is a Professional Degree Act, and support for nursing research and NCI funding.
I feel privileged to be an oncology nurse and a member of PSONS. Our chapter has given me meaningful opportunities to contribute, collaborate, and support our nurses and cancer community. I have especially valued mentoring nursing students through the Future of Nursing Initiative, supporting the next generation of oncology nurses.
In the leadership role, I will bring dedication, collaboration, and a strong commitment to advancing our mission. I am passionate about strengthening our chapter’s role in advocacy, expanding educational opportunities, and fostering community partnerships that elevate the voice and impact of oncology nurses. I am committed to serving with integrity, inclusivity, and a focus on meaningful engagement for all PSONS members.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my two grandchildren, drawing, taking long walks in nature, swimming, and kayaking during the summer.
With gratitude ,
Mitra Freer MSN,RN.OCN
Treasurer
Brittnee Ramsey, BSN, RN, OCN (she/her)
I would be honored to be considered for the PSONS Treasurer position. I have been an oncology nurse for 16 years and have been an active member of PSONS for more than 10 years. Since 2016, I have maintained my Oncology Certified Nurse credential and have remained dedicated to advancing excellence in oncology nursing care.
Currently, I serve as the RN Manager for Clinic and Infusion Services with the MultiCare Cancer Institute, overseeing operations for our Tacoma and Gig Harbor locations. Throughout my career, I have developed strong leadership, operational, and financial stewardship skills while supporting high-quality patient care and service excellence across oncology programs.
The oncology nursing community has played an important role in my professional growth, and I would be honored to give back through service as Treasurer. I am committed to supporting the mission of PSONS and helping ensure the organization’s ongoing success and sustainability.
Member at Large Bios
Sunshine Gray, MSN, RN, OCN
I am an Oncology nurse educator and nursing author with over 20 years of oncology experience. I earned my MSN in nurse education, and my current teaching focus has been on clinical nursing education in radiation oncology at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. And have volunteered with ONS as author (textbook, peer reviewer, test writing, course materials) and invited speaker at ONS Congress in 2026. I am involved in global nursing education through my role as Lead Nurse Educator for Rayos Contra Cancer, a non-profit that provides cost-free radiation oncology curriculums for low- and middle-income countries across the globe. My passions include nursing excellence and education, and the advancement and sustainment of our nursing profession. I am currently serving as a Research Nursing Fellow for the MSKCC/FHCC nursing research fellowship to further understand our nursing impact to cancer patients. I feel immense hope and joy for what we may accomplish in our profession, and a strong desire to make a difference. I believe PSONS board participation may be just the right fit. Thank you for your consideration.
Amy West, MSN, FNP-C (she/her)
I’m a nurse practitioner in Breast Oncology at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where I’ve been since 2023. Before that, I spent two years as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator in breast and gynecologic oncology at the Hutch, and close to a decade as an ICU nurse at Swedish. My clinical focus is breast cancer treatment and caring for patients at high risk, including how genomic testing shapes treatment decisions. I also hold a position as a Teaching Associate at the UW School of Medicine.
Speaking at last year’s Symposium was my first real involvement with PSONS, and I came away wanting to do more. Teaching is the part of my work I enjoy most, and I’d like to bring that love to the chapter. Outside of work, you’ll find me having fun with my family on our small farm north of the city.
Sofiya, Kylyukh, BSN, RN (she/her)
As a lymphoma infusion nurse for three years, my heart is deeply rooted in our oncology community. Whether I am caring for patients at the bedside, connecting with peers at local PSONS events, learning at ONS Congress, or volunteering annually with DESC, my commitment to supporting fellow nurses drives everything I do.
Recently representing our chapter at ONS Capitol Hill Days showed me how powerful our collective voice is when we advocate for our profession.
I am running for Member at Large to bring that energy and hands on perspective to our local leadership team. I would be honored to serve our chapter and help our oncology community thrive together.
Sonia Glennie, MSN ARNP AOCNP she/her
My oncology nursing career began in 2011 as a new grad nurse on the BMT floor at UW Montlake, followed by six years as a clinical nurse coordinator in a dedicated hematology/oncology clinic with a focus on CLL and lymphoma. Inspired by my colleagues in oncology and wanting to further my practice, I earned my MSN and a post-master’s certificate in Advanced Practice Oncology from the University of Pennsylvania. I then spent five years practicing as a nurse practitioner in both hematology/oncology and a community medical oncology practice, at which point I realized I needed a little more time with my family, so I stepped back from clinical practice to join the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to my clinical roles, I have also volunteered with and raised funds for Blood Cancer United, and presented at local events including lymphoma rounds and an ONS CE dinner. I am passionate about patient and nursing education and am interested in becoming more involved in policy and advocacy at both the state and national levels. I look forward to furthering my commitment to oncology nursing and patient advocacy with future involvement with PSONS.
Iffa Hughes MSN RN OCN NE-BC (she/her)
My name is Iffa Hughes, and I am seeking a second term as a Member at Large. My commitment to oncology nursing is deeply personal: after losing my mother to cancer, I witnessed firsthand the compassionate care her oncology and hospice nurses provided.
Since becoming an oncology nurse in 2007, I have progressed from chemotherapy infusion nursing to nursing leadership and now serve as a pharmaceutical nurse educator.
During my term, I have served on the OCN Review and Education Committee. I am especially proud that we brought a live PSONS educational event back to Tacoma in March 2026, giving South Sound nurses an opportunity to learn, connect, and engage with one another. Its success marked an important step toward better serving members in the South Sound.
If elected, I will deepen my contributions to the committee and expand educational opportunities for PSONS members in Pierce County and beyond.
