PSONS welcomes you to its November virtual education event called “Advances in Intravenous Iron Administration: Safety, Efficacy, and Nursing Implications”.

OBJECTIVES:
- Identify clinical indications for patients for intravenous iron and potential disparities in access to receipt of IV iron.
- Identify chemical and structural changes to intraveno us iron products and risk of hypersensitivity reactions.
- Explain the different types of hypersensitivity reactions, their mechanisms, and clinical manifestations.
- Discuss hypersensitivity reactions: anaphylaxis, fishbane, delayed reactions, and rechallenge.
- Explain why certain formulations might be useful based on clinical context.
- Explain hypophosphatemia and how to manage/treat following iron infusion.
- Discuss clinical and economic factors influencing choice of intravenous iron products including potential burden of cost on patients depending on insurance plan and insurance- directed choice of therapy.
