The Education Committee serves to identify educational needs of the chapter membership, provides programs that meet the needs and are consistent with the ONS mission.

PSONS offers many educational events throughout the year. The Seattle chapter meets the third Wednesday of every month for it’s monthly educational meeting. Meetings begin at 6:00 pm. There is a $5.00 charge for PSONS members, $10.00 for PSONS non-members. Watch our chapter news blog for information about specific meetings.  If you have questions about our educational meetings, or to RSVP to an upcoming event, please contact Ann Breen and Dana Scharfenberg at psonseducation@gmail.com.  Please also check our calendar for events.

Interested in joining the committee?

Our team organizes at least nine educational dinner events per year with speakers who are experts in their field to promote excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care.  We encourage participation from a variety of healthcare facilities and areas of oncology to promote diversity.

If you are interested in volunteering with us on the PSONS Education Committee, the minimum expectation is to attend the annual planning meeting in the fall, secure a speaker for one event (they are paid an honorarium), gather information for the educational event flier (speaker’s credentials and topic title), and attend the speaking event you arranged. Total estimated volunteer time for the year is 5 active hours + driving time.  It is encouraged, but optional to attend the spring PSONS Education Committee meeting, monthly education events, and introduce the speaker you secured.

The education committee also sponsors the Oncology Nursing Certification Review Course.
