Candidate Profile for PSONS Treasurer-elect:
Heather Freeborne, RN, BSN (she/her)
I would like to serve as Treasurer for PSONS, with one year being Treasurer-elect and 2 years as Treasurer.
I have been an RN since 1987, with my first 20 years of my career being in critical care and oncology nursing roles. Since then, I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a nurse educator and representative. I currently work for Genentech with breast cancer products. I also volunteer with King County Public Health in the free clinics several times a year.
I previously served as treasurer with PSONS for 8 years. During that time, I was instrumental in moving the chapter towards a solid financial standing, via socially responsible investing and by partnering with pharma companies.
The principles I live by and bring with me to the role: Generosity, Abundance, Accountability and Joy. Keeping these ideas at the underpinning of all my actions leads to success in all my endeavors.
The ideas that I feel PSONS would benefit from are: professional bookkeeping, Tax expertise and advice and looking for more ways to provide benefits to our members via education events, scholarships, and self-enrichment.
I would be honored to have your vote and your confidence.
Candidate Profile for Member(s)-at-Large:
Lauren Frazier RN, OCN (she/her)
I am an oncology–hematology nurse with 17 years of experience in both Australia and the United States, and I currently am a nurse manager at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. Throughout my career, I have focused on delivering high quality cancer care, supporting and developing nursing teams, and advancing practice through education and quality improvement.
In my current role, I lead a diverse team of oncology nurses, support professional growth, and collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues on patient care, safety, and workflow initiatives. This does include our enterprise IT colleagues.
Working in different health systems has given me a broad view of oncology nursing, including workforce challenges, opportunities to strengthen the pipeline, and the importance of community and professional connection.
As a Member at Large, I would hope to contribute by strengthening member engagement across practice settings and career stages, including bedside, ambulatory, and community oncology.
Building more structured opportunities for mentorship and leadership development and those that need to understand how tech will intersect with nursing.
Supporting thoughtful use of new technologies and data tools in oncology care, while keeping the focus on the expertise and judgment of nurses.
I am committed to the mission and values of PSONS and representing the diverse voices within its membership. It would be a privilege to bring my leadership experience, international background, and commitment to the PSONS Member at Large position.
Hello everyone, my name is Mercedes Mack and I am a BSN student at Seattle University (Class of 2027) pursuing my goal of becoming an oncology nurse. After attending the recent PSONS meeting and participating in the mentorship session, I was inspired by the chapter’s culture of thoughtfulness, their commitment to mentorship, and their deep passion for oncology. I left that meeting feeling excited about oncology nursing and motivated to take an active leadership role with this chapter. It can be intimidating to join a professional community, but PSONS is already so welcoming; I want to build on that by bringing my professional experience and a student’s perspective to the board.
My path to nursing is informed by over a decade of professional experience in the nonprofit and tech sectors. I spent the majority of my career in nonprofit, specializing in program management, event planning, donor and grant management and volunteer recruitment and training, before transitioning into UX Design, and now nursing.
As a career-changer, I bring a range of skills that I am eager to contribute to the board. Whether it’s supporting our digital presence and website, managing complex projects, or helping to organize events, I see many places where I can help and support the chapter’s work. I am excited to plug into this community, to learn from the expertise on the board, and to help grow the mentorship initiatives already underway. My desire as a Member at Large is to be a supportive teammate who helps shape the chapter’s direction, ensuring our goals remain impactful and that we are building the resources needed to strengthen PSONS for years to come.
When I’m not in clinicals or studying, I enjoy biking, climbing, reading, and knitting. I thrive as part of a team and am excited by the opportunity to help drive PSONS’ vital work in our region
Luann Majeed, DNP, RN (she/her)
I began my nursing career as an in-patient oncology nurse on the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in-patient solid tumor unit. Since then, I’ve worked in hematology oncology, neuro oncology, float nursing, nursing education, and leadership. Currently, I work as an infusion nurse at UW Medicine infusion center. Throughout the years of my nursing practice, I established unit practice councils, mentored new nurses, and helped planned education events for the nursing community. I am passionate about continuing to learn and then sharing new learned knowledge with patients, colleagues, and oncology nursing community. I have been a volunteer on the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society (PSONS) Education, Symposium, and Mentorship Committees from 2024 to the present.
I would like to be a Member-At-Large on the PSONS board, continue to elevate the PSONS mission, and become more involved in the oncology nursing community.
