Elected Board Positions

We have elections every 2 years for board positions of PSONS President, PSONS Secretary, PSONS Treasurer, PSONS Membership and PSONS Member(s) at Large. Our elected board members are passionate and dedicated to supporting our PSONS community.

Chermaine Wulff BSN, RN, OCN (she/her)

President

Chermaine is the current Manager of the Infusion Center at Valley Medical Center. She served as the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society (PSONS) Symposium Chair from 2018-2022 and PSONS member since 2013 before being elected PSONS President in 2024,

Chermaine was born and raised in the Philippines and migrated to the United States in 2001. During that time, she lived in Orange County, CA where she discovered her love for Oncology as a yearning for service. From there she started her journey to transitioning to healthcare, eventually completing her nursing degree at Seattle University in Washington state, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and awarded the Spirit of Nursing Award in 2012.

Margaret O’Malley, MSN, RN, OCN, SCRN (she/her)

Secretary

I have been working as a nurse in Seattle since 2009. In 2016, when I found my way to oncology nursing, I knew I found my home. Oncology nursing is not easy, but it is the most compelling work I have done. I have been volunteering since 2022 with PSONS on the OCN Review Course Committee and the Symposium Planning Committee. Volunteering has helped me foster connections with other oncology nurses in our community. I aim to be a voice for nurses and help advocate for them so that all nurses can give the best care possible. I am passionate about fostering a love for learning and a continued sense of curiosity for all oncology nurses.

In my spare time, I enjoy doing yoga, Tai Chi, reading, going to live theatre, and trying new restaurants.

Amy Boswell, BSN, RN, OCN (she/her)

Treasurer

My name is Amy Boswell and I’m an oncology nurse with 20 years of experience, primarily in the outpatient setting. I currently work at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center as the Advanced Practice Nurse for Community Sites, which means I support nursing education and practice. My passion is to support, develop, and represent these nurses providing excellent care in their community. I’ve lived in the Puget Sound area for 2 years now after a large cross-country move with my family. I have experience on the board of an ONS local chapter; I served as the Membership Chair for the NC Triangle ONS for 2 years (1/2012-12/2013).

Lyndsey Conway, MN, RN, BMTCN (she/her)

Membership

As an oncology nurse for 9 years and a PSONS board member for 8, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the incredible impact of our chapter since I was in nursing school. My journey began as a student on a hematology and bone marrow transplant floor, where I was blown away by my nurse preceptors and their enthusiasm and support of my learning and growth. This experience fueled my passion for supporting and mentoring nurses new to oncology and students alike. I deeply value the mentorship, networking, and educational opportunities PSONS provides, and as your Membership Chair, I’m dedicated to learning how we can better meet the needs of our oncology nursing community. I want to build a vibrant and inclusive community where all members feel seen, valued, supported and empowered. Outside of work, you can find me somewhere in the mountains, writing my morning pages or doing something creative, and spending quality time in community with others.

Mary-Jo Sarver, RN (she/her)

Board Member(s) at Large

I am honored to extend my term as member at large to continue staying active in the PSONS board. I feel passionate about our role and contributions to nurses and feel my experience would be beneficial. I enjoy being part of a team and mentoring others along their chosen paths. The world has changed, and healthcare is one of the areas that require an open mind and embracing change. This journey relies on history as a pillar. I hope to provide that while inspiring others to be involved.

In my spare time, I enjoy time with the grandkids/family, horseback riding, playing with the dogs, travel, gardening, writing, karaoke, vintage cars, the symphony and attending community events. There is something to be said about life after raising your family, giving back, and finding yourself.

Mitra Freer, MSN, RN, OCN (she/her)

Board Member(s) at Large

I am an oncology nurse with over 20 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. My passion is to support and contribute to our cancer community. I served as the education committee co-chair at PSONS for two years (2020-2022) and currently work closely with goverment relations to influence policies that positively impact our cancer patients. I feel privileged to be an oncology nurse and hope I can make a difference with our amazing PSONS team members.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my two lovely grandchildren, drawing, long walks in nature, swimming, and kayaking.

Iffa Hughes, MSN, RN, OCN, NE-BC (she/her)

Board Member(s) at Large

I have been an oncology nurse for almost 18 years. I grew up in Singapore and came to the US for college. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and her cancer journey inspired me to become an oncology nurse. I have worked as an infusion nurse and a nurse manager, and I was also involved in the former PSONS Fundamentals of Oncology Nursing Planning Committee. Volunteering in this role gave me an opportunity to interact with peers that I could discuss and share ideas on ways to improve oncology nursing and clinical operations. I live in Olympia, and it is important to have representation from all parts of the Puget Sound. As a board member, I am hoping to engage the south sound oncology nurses and hopefully plan activities centered in the south sound.

In my spare time, I love to cook and watch movies! Cooking is my stress reliever.

Dana Scharfenberg, FNP (she/her)

Board Member(s) at Large

I have worked in a variety of settings caring for patients who are currently or have undergone treatment for solid and liquid tumors since 2002. I have been a volunteer with PSONS in a variety of roles since 2011. I am proud to have honorably served in the USAF for seven years. I am excited to continue serving as a PSONS volunteer in the role of Member-at-Large to contribute to the mission of supporting fellow nurses and providers in oncology.

In my spare time, I enjoy time with my family, playing pickleball, reading, hiking, and volunteering in the community.

Standing Committee Members

Committee Members are part of the PSONS Board and passionate about engaging our PSONS community and supporting our nurses.

Jessica Stromerson, MN, RN, OCN (she/her)

Communications & Webmaster

I have been an oncology nurse since 2012 when I got my first nursing job working in medical oncology. I spent most of my career working in inpatient stem cell transplant and immunotherapy, which I truly loved. Before I became a nurse, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be a nurse or a teacher, until I learned that in nursing you get to do both. My love of teaching others led me to obtain my MN degree with focus on nursing education, which combines the best of both worlds for me! In my spare time, I like to crochet, read, hike, roadtrip, rockhound, and spend time with my family.

Arlyce Coumar, MN, RN, OCN (she/her)

Government Relations

I have been Chair of the Legislative and Health Policy committee since 2018. The committee introduces nurses to opportunities which widen their scope of oncology practice– to influence the health of our communities from beyond the bedside and clinic– by entering into the area of legislative policy engagement. In the committee, we are learning ways to share oncology nurse expertise with leaders in our government both nationally and locally.

Lynley Fow, MN, ARNP, AOCNP (she/her)

Vendor Liaison, Education Committee Member

I have been involved in the care of Oncology Patients for over 30 years, and have practiced in all 4 corners of the US and some states in between. I have been a member of PSONS since I moved to Washington in 1998 to go to grad school at UW. I am proud to say that I support the PSONS aspirations by being a current member of the symposium & education committees. I began serving on the board in 2016 as the President-elect and then served a 2 year President term from 2017-2019. Since 2019, in addition to the educational committees that I am a part of, I have been the Vendor Liaison, facilitating communications between outside vendors and chapter events. When I am not working, I like to do creative things like stained glass, or be outside gardening, hiking, motorcycling, and being with my family. Since I live in Woodinville, you may find my husband and I at a winery on Sundays 🙂

Shari Bates, BSN, RN, OCN, CCM (she/her)

Symposium Committee Co-Chair

I have been symposium chair since November 2021. A fun fact about me – I’m a farm girl!  My home includes space for 3 goats, 5 chickens, 2 Bernese Mountain dogs and 1 cat.

Margaret O'Malley, MSN, RN, OCN, SCRN (she/her)

Symposium Committee Co-Chair

I began my nursing career as a neuro nurse. I found my way to oncology in 2016 and have never looked back. Oncology nursing is compelling because I  can practice the art and science of nursing.  I am constantly learning something new.  I choose to be a part of PSONS for my own professional growth and to facilitate growth for other nurses.

Kathleen Shannon-Dorcy, PhD, RN, FAAN (she/her)

Research Committee Chair

Kathleen has been an ONS member for 32 years.

Lisa Westmoreland (she/her)

Community Service Chair

I have been an oncology nurse for over 30 years.  Currently I work for Swedish Cancer Institute in Edmonds as a staff nurse. My past involvement with PSONS included being Vendor Relations liaison and a member of the Symposium committee. PSONS has been a great resource for education and mentorship my whole career, and I enjoy giving back to this organization and the community.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with family, hiking and gardening.

Margaret Ramsdell (she/her)

Scholarship Committee Chair

Ryan Iwamoto, MN, RN, AOCN

Renee Yankee, ARNP, MN, AOCN (she/her)
